Women’s Lacrosse Evens 2024 Record With Another One-Goal Victory

In a game which featured nine tie scores, Ashland University's women's lacrosse team outlasted Quincy, 13-12, on Wednesday (March 13) afternoon at Ferguson Field.

The Eagles evened their 2024 record at 4-4 following the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Ashland's wins so far this spring have come by four, one, one (in overtime) and one goal.

"We are a very resilient group," said Ashland head coach Lauren Simko. "When it matters, we show up. We are slowly learning to capitalize on their mistakes, and understanding that time is on your side."

The Hawks are 3-6.

With two score tied for the ninth time at 11-11 in the fourth quarter, Ashland pulled away with back-to-back goals from sophomore attackers Rachel Crumbacher and Ashley Fisher.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Fisher finished with four goals and two assists for six points, and Crumbacher (four goals) and freshman attacker Stella Parrish (two goals, two assists) each chipped in with four points. Crumbacher also finished with 16 draw controls.
  • "The best thing about Stella is that she absolutely is a team player," Simko said. "She puts the team above herself. She's a hustle kid."
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Mancuso ended with a career-high 14 saves to improve to 2-4.
  • "Today felt really good," Mancuso said. "A lot of pressure, definitely. If we scored, I tried not to let them have another goal."
  • "She is getting significantly more comfortable, and the defense has responded really well to her being in goal," Simko said. "Every game, she's making better and better saves."
  • Wednesday's game saw a combined 25 goals, 56 shots and 31 turnovers.
