Ashland University's baseball team started the new season on a strong note on Sunday (Feb. 25) in West Virginia, taking 5-0 and 16-0 decisions from Concord (3-3).

In Game 1, the Eagles broke the scoreless tie with runs in the top of the fourth (one), fifth (one), sixth (two) and seventh (one) innings.

Sunday's nightcap saw Ashland put up crooked numbers in the first (three runs), second (four), fourth (two), sixth (two) and eighth (four).

POST-GAME NUGGETS
- The opener saw senior right-hander Zac Common (two innings), junior left-hander Marshall Leishman (three innings, win) and sophomore righty Drew Becker (two innings) combine for a five-hit shutout and 10 strikeouts.
- Sophomore designated hitter Collin Overholt went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs, and junior catcher Ben Peltz was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs.
- Another sophomore, second baseman Gavin Dobbels, hit a solo home run in Game 1, then went 3-for-5 with another solo blast and three runs scored in Game 2.
- Also in the second game, Peltz was 2-for-3 with another homer and three RBIs, and junior designated hitter Ian Sanders drove in three runs.
- Six Ashland pitchers combined for the second blanking of the day, a three-hitter with 10 more Ks. Sophomore lefty Seth Witt got the win by shutting out Concord in the fourth and fifth innings.
- The Eagles played a pair of errorless games in the field on Sunday to begin the new season, and ended the day with 21 runs on 23 hits.
