Thompson Becomes Latest Former Eagle Chosen For USTFCCCA D-II Hall Of Fame

Former Ashland University track and field national champion Kirt Thompson has become the latest former Eagle to be inducted into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Athlete Hall of Fame, the USTFCCCA announced on Thursday (Feb. 22) afternoon.
 
The Class of 2024 includes Thompson, Aaron Braun of Adams State, Rosalyn Bryant of Cal State Los Angeles, Marquita Davis of Saint Augustine's, Samantha Lockhart of Grand Valley State, Jennifer Michel of Western Colorado, Neely Spence of Shippensburg, and Camille Vandendriessche of Abilene Christian.
 
Thompson was a three-time Division II national champion for the Eagles in the javelin (1994-96). His top mark of 78.06 meters/256-feet-1 at D-II nationals in California in 1996 not only still is the AU program record, but is No. 2 all-time in division history. Thompson has two of the top eight D-II men's javelin marks all-time, with No. 8 being 76.07 meters/249-feet-7.
 
In 1996, Thompson competed for Trinidad and Tobago in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga..
 
Thompson becomes the sixth former Eagle to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Division II Athlete Hall of Fame – all since 2017 (see list below).
