Ashland University's softball team was supposed to open the 2024 season with two games on Friday (Feb. 16) at the Music City Invitational near Nashville, Tenn., but Mother Nature had other ideas.

The Eagles lost a 3-2, eight-inning decision against McKendree on Friday, then got into the first inning of their game vs. Parkside before weather forced a cancelation.

Against the Bearcats, Ashland broke a 1-all tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth, as junior first baseman
Lily Rockwell delivered a two-out RBI single. McKendree, however, scored single runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
- Junior pitcher Bryn Grabowski went the first seven innings in her Eagle debut, scattering eight hits, two runs and two walks and striking out three.
- Another junior hurler, Cassidy Shaffer (0-1), pitched the eighth inning, yielding a hit, a run and a walk and striking out one.
