A flurry of late first-half goals on Thursday (Oct. 10) night at Ferguson Field lifted Ashland University's men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Northwood in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Eagles, now 3-0-1 in their last four games, improve to 4-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the league. The Timberwolves are 1-7-1, 1-5.
After Northwood's Chris Escalante scored in the 34
th minute, Ashland:
- Leveled the game in the 36th minute on a goal from senior midfielder Oliver Lovell for his second tally of the fall. Sophomore midfielder Riki Soto's assist was his second of the season.
- Took a 2-1 lead in the 41st minute on a penalty kick from fifth-year midfielder Oliver Whaley – his team-leading third goal of 2024.
- Extended the advantage to 3-1 in the last minute of the first half on the first Eagle goal by junior defender Flynn Toon. Soto gained his second assist of the game and third of the season.
Then, in the second half, an AU insurance goal was potted by graduate forward
Rodri Jimenez – his first points as an Eagle – in the 65
th minute.

- Freshman goalkeeper David Berglund played the first half and made two saves, then senior keeper Ty Bowden played the last 45 minutes and had one stop.
- Ashland out-shot Northwood 9-7, and had six corner kicks to the T'Wolves' four.
