Cannon, Myers Earn Honorable Mention All-American Status From Don Hansen Football Committee

Ashland University seniors Nehemiah Cannon and Jackson Myers have been named 2023 honorable mention All-Americans by the Don Hansen Football Committee.

Cannon, a left guard who also has earned first-team Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region 1 and first-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference selections, led an Eagle offensive line which tied for the third-fewest sacks allowed in D-II in 2023 (seven), and he didn't allow a sack during the regular season.

Myers, a linebacker who also is second-team D2CCA all-region and first-team All-Great Midwest, led Ashland's defense with 71 total tackles, 44 solo stops and 15½ tackles for loss, and added 6½ sacks, an interception for a touchdown and a fumble recovery.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.

With an eight-game winning streak to finish the season, the Eagles ended 2023 at 9-3 overall and 8-1 in the Great Midwest. The win streak is the program's longest since 2017 (11 games), and it will be the second-longest in D-II when the 2024 season begins – behind only 2023 national champion Harding (19 in a row).
