On Saturday (Sept. 23), Ashland University's men's soccer team used a late goal to come away with a 2-2 tie at Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Eagles are 1-5-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, while the Panthers are 4-1-3, 1-1-2.
NOTABLES
- The Panthers dented the scoreboard first, as Santiago Henrich's goal in the 13th minute made it a 1-0 game. In the 31st minute, junior forward Pedro Faria scored his second goal of the fall to pull the Eagles even at 1-1.
- Then, in the 63rd minute, Matteo Napoletano's goal on assists from Haakon Torvbraaten and Hannes Gronevik put KWC ahead again at 2-1.
- For the second time, Ashland rallied to re-tie the game – this time at 2-2 in the 79th minute when junior midfielder Rodri Fernandez found the back of the net for his second goal of 2023. Fifth-year midfielder Oliver Whaley had his fourth assist of the season, and the Eagles were back even.
- Freshman goalkeeper Zach Harrison (0-3-2) made one save in the nets for AU.
- Ashland out-shot KWC by a 20-8 count, and had twice as many corner kicks as the Panthers (6-3).
