Ashland University's men's soccer team earned a key three points in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings on Wednesday (Sept. 27), defeating Ohio Dominican 4-0 at Ferguson Field.
The Eagles improve to 2-5-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference, and moved up from tied for sixth in the league table to a tie for second when the game ended. The Panthers are 1-4-3, 1-2-3.
NOTABLES
- Junior forward Pedro Faria wasted little time putting the Eagles up 2-0, as he scored in both the third and 10th minutes. Junior midfielder Rodri Fernandez assisted both goals for his first two helpers as an Eagle, and senior midfielder Vander Rocha helped on the first one for his second assist of 2023.
- In the second half, Rocha potted his second goal of the season, unassisted, 1-on-1 with the Panther goalkeeper in the 50th minute. Then, in the 56th minute, Fernandez scored his third goal of the campaign, unassisted, for the final margin of victory.
- Ashland took all 24 shots on Wednesday night, and had the corner kicks advantage at 4-2.
QUOTABLES
- "We said to the guys that they have to get after it," said Ashland head coach Nick Roberts. "When they went down to 10 men in the first half, even when that happened, we were dominating the game. We have the talent – sometimes, it's just getting them to click."
UP NEXT
Ashland's men will go back on the road on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 1 p.m. at Findlay (3-2-3, 1-2-2).
