On Monday (March 6) afternoon in Florida, Ashland University's baseball team took a 13-0 decision from Notre Dame College to improve to 6-1 on the young 2023 season.
The Eagles turned in crooked numbers in the top of the second (three runs), sixth (three runs) and eighth (four runs) innings.
In the second, sophomore center fielder
Tylor Wolfe drove in a run with a single, and senior catcher
Nolan Perrin doubled to bring in two more. In the sixth, the Eagles scored on run on a Falcons error, sophomore designated hitter
Ben Peltz added an RBI groundout, Perrin lifted a sacrifice fly.
Then, in the eighth, freshman pinch-hitter
Gavin Dobbels launched his first collegiate home run, sophomore first baseman
Joey Bertani drove in two with a double, and redshirt freshman pinch-hitter
Chris Franks added an RBI single.
NOTABLES
- Three Ashland pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout. Senior right-hander Josh Meyer (2-0) went the first six innings, allowing just three hits and two walks and striking out two. Freshman lefty Seth Witt (two innings) and junior righty Jake Depperschmidt (one inning) finished off the shutout.
- Pacing the Eagles' 13-run, 13-hit attack were redshirt freshman third baseman Collin Overholt (3-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, double, home run), Wolfe (2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, double), Bertani (2-for-5, run scored, three RBIs, double), Perrin (double, four RBIs) and sophomore second baseman Ian Sanders (three runs scored).
