To start Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday (March 24) in Midland, Mich., Ashland University's softball team split with Northwood, losing the first game, 5-0, and taking Game 2, 4-1.

The Eagles are 7-15 overall and 1-1 in the Great Midwest after winning four of their last five games, and the Timberwolves are 17-10, 1-1.

Game 2 saw Ashland score twice in the top of the second inning on a two-run single from freshman second baseman
Danielle Robbins. The Eagles added a run in the third on a solo home run from senior third baseman
Hailey Struckman, and another in the seventh when freshman designated player
Amanda Kolar rapped an RBI double.

NOTABLES
- The nightcap saw Robbins, senior center fielder Lauren McMillin, junior catcher Jordyn Severns and senior right fielder Haylee Frost each collect two hits.
- Sophomore pitcher Cassidy Shaffer (2-3) won Game 2 thanks to a complete-game four-hitter. She struck out three and walked none.
- In Game 1, Ashland managed just three hits. Senior pitcher Kayla Ruperto (1-4) allowed 10 hits, five runs (four earned) and three walks and struck out one in 5 2/3 innings.
