Eagle Baseball Splits Start Of Road League Series With Cedarville

On Wednesday (March 22), Ashland University's baseball team began a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference road series with a split against Cedarville.
 
The Eagles (12-7 overall, 4-2 Great Midwest) won Game 1 on Wednesday, 8-1, then lost the nightcap to the Yellow Jackets (4-17, 1-5), 4-0.
 
Wednesday's opener was highlighted by the pitching of sophomore left-hander Brendan Beaver (2-0), who allowed just one hit, one walk and no runs and struck out 11 over eight innings. In his first five starts as an Eagle, Beaver has a 1.64 earned-run average, a WHIP of 0.82, and 42 strikeouts to just three walks.
 
Ashland scored single runs in the top of the first, second, fifth and seventh innings, then exploded for four in the ninth. Sophomore shortstop Jeremiah Cangelosi singled for an RBI, freshman third baseman Collin Overholt walked with the bases loaded for a run, and sophomore center fielder Cam Miller drove in two with a single.

  • Leading AU's 12-hit attack in Game 1 were Miller (3-for-4, two runs scored, two RBIs, double), Cangelosi (3-for-5, two runs scored, RBI), Overholt (two RBIs) and sophomore designated hitter Ian Sanders (2-for-5, run scored).
  • In the Game 2 loss, fifth-year left fielder Seth Schroeder was 2-for-3 with a double. Senior righty Josh Meyer (2-2) started and allowed a run, five hits and a walk and whiffed five in three innings.
