Softball Loses Twice To End Blue Bridge Battle

Ashland University's softball team lost two games on Saturday (Feb. 25) on the second day of the Blue Bridge Battle in Evansville, Ind., falling 7-2 to Notre Dame College and 9-4 to Davis & Elkins.
 
In Saturday's first game against the Falcons, Notre Dame put up runs in the third (one), fourth (two) and fifth (one) innings. Ashland (1-7) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2, as junior second baseman Hailey Krinn hit a two-run home run.
 
Notre Dame scored three runs in the seventh to clinch the victory.
 
Against the Senators, the Eagles led 4-1 thanks to an RBI double by senior designated player Hailey Struckman in the first inning, a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder Haylee Frost in the third inning, and RBI singles from Struckman and senior center fielder Lauren McMillin in the fourth.
 
Davis & Elkins scored four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to earn the victory.
 
NOTABLES
  • Krinn was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and a run scored against NDC.
  • Senior Josie Duncan (1-2) went the distance against the Falcons, allowing eight hits, seven runs and three walks and striking out one.
  • Struckman was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the second game. Freshman Delaney Lis (0-1) yielded 11 hits, eight runs (six earned) and no walks in four innings.
