There were a lot of new faces in the Ashland University baseball lineup at Concord on Friday (Feb. 24) afternoon, as the 2023 season opened up.
The formula for winning remained the same for the Eagles, however, as they defeated the Mountain Lions (4-3) by a 8-1 count.
Ashland put up a three-spot in the top of the second inning when sophomore third baseman
Cam Scott scored on the front end of a double steal, and sophomore second baseman
Ian Sanders launched his first home run of the season, a two-run shot.
The Eagles added single runs in the third (RBI single by sophomore first baseman
Sam Witt) and fourth (sophomore right fielder
Cal Johnston's sacrifice fly). After Concord scored in the fifth, Ashland rounded out the scoring with two runs in the seventh on an RBI double from sophomore center fielder
Cam Miller and a sac fly from freshman catcher
Collin Overholt, and one in the ninth on a run-scoring single from sophomore shortstop
Jeremiah Cangelosi.
