AU Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight Heading Into Midwest Crossover

On Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's volleyball team earned its seventh consecutive win and 15th overall in 2023, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-8) against Thomas More.
 
The Eagles are 15-4 overall and 9-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference heading into the Midwest Region Crossover, while the Storm are 3-15, 2-8. As of Saturday afternoon, Ashland is 3½ matches ahead of second-place Ohio Dominican in the South Division.
 
NOTABLES
  • On Alumni Day, the Eagles finished with a season-high 13 service aces – three each from junior middle blocker Bailey Ruth, senior libero Katie Thompson, junior outside hitter Makenna Belcher and freshman outside hitter Henlie Krause.
  • The Eagles hit .329 as a team, their third-best in a single match this season.
  • Ashland is 17-1 all-time against Lake Erie.
  • All proceeds from ticket sales on Saturday afternoon went to the Bre McKean Memorial Fund. McKean, a Mapleton High School volleyball player, passed away on Sept. 29.
