On Wednesday (Oct. 4) night at Lake Erie, the No. 1-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team improved to 9-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference following an 4-1 victory.

The Eagles remain three points behind first-place Northwood (7-2-2, 6-0-1) near the top of the Great Midwest table following a fourth consecutive win. The Storm is 1-8-1, 0-6.

NOTABLES
- The Eagles came out scoring early, with junior forward McKinley Mendenhall doing the first honors in the fifth minute. Mendenhall's goal, on a penalty kick, was her second of the season.
- In the 51st minute, sophomore forward Dani Hicks scored her team-leading sixth goal, on an assist from Mendenhall (her third assist of 2023), to put AU ahead by a 2-0 count. It became a 3-0 game in the 65th minute when senior forward Allison King potted her fourth goal of the campaign, unassisted.
- Freshman forward Sydney Polen continued her scoring run of late, as her fourth goal of the season – all in the last four games – put the Eagles' lead at 4-0.
- Lake Erie dented the scoreboard in the 83rd minute on a goal from Madison Amburgey.
- Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Simon stopped one shot, as Ashland had a 16-5 shots advantage and took all three of the game's corner kicks.
- After a tie in the first meeting in the series, Ashland has won 15 in a row against Lake Erie.
