It's getting late early for those trying to catch Ashland University's volleyball team, as, on Wednesday (Oct. 4) night, the Eagles extended their Great Midwest Athletic Conference South Division lead to three matches following a 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17) win at Tiffin.
After completing the regular-season sweep of the Dragons, the Eagles improved to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference thanks to their fifth consecutive victory. Tiffin is 9-7, 4-4.
Ashland has won the South Division in each of its two previous seasons in the Great Midwest.
NOTABLES
- For the 12th time this season and the eighth match in a row, junior outside hitter Makenna Belcher recorded a double-double. On Wednesday night, it was 15 kills and 10 digs, to go with a .300 hitting percentage, four assists and three block assists.
- Freshman outside hitter Henlie Krause added 10 kills, and as has been the case all season, freshman Kylee Urban (19 assists) and junior Georgi Moody (15 assists) split the setting duties.
- Defensively, senior libero Katie Thompson, the two-time defending Great Midwest South Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, kept up her strong play of late with a season-high-tying 28 digs.
