Trailing two sets to one on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon at Northwood, Ashland University's volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 (19-25, 29-27, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9) victory over the Timberwolves to keep its 2½-match lead atop the Great Midwest Athletic Conference South Division.
The Eagles are 17-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference after all-time win No. 996, while the Timberwolves are 13-10, 8-4.
Saturday's victory, in which there were 27 tie scores and 15 lead changes, was AU's ninth in the last 10 meetings with Northwood.
NOTABLES
- Junior outside hitter Makenna Belcher led the Eagles with yet another double-double (19 kills, 15 digs), along with three assists and three block assists. Junior middle blocker Bailey Ruth added 10 kills and seven block assists.
- Senior libero Katie Thompson racked up 23 digs, and the setter duo of freshman Kylee Urban (21 assists) and junior Georgi Moody (16 assists) combined for 37 of the Eagles' 47 helpers.
- Saturday's win was the Eagles' sixth 3-2 decision of 2023.

Ashland will return to the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. to take on Cedarville. That will be a teddy bear toss match, where teddy bears thrown on to the court by fans between sets No. 2 and 3 will be sent to Ronald McDonald House, to be given to children in need.
