In a game for first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference table on Wednesday (Oct. 11) night at Ferguson Field, Ashland University's men's soccer team lost to Tiffin, 3-1.
The Dragons remain alone in first place in the Great Midwest at 8-1-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the league, while the Eagles saw their four-game winning streak snapped, and are 5-6-2, 5-2-2.
NOTABLES
- Tiffin broke the scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when Luke Alexander-Frost potted a goal on feeds from Amara Kamara and Chewe Mukaka.
- Ashland, however, responded in the 27th minute when senior midfielder Vander Rocha, the reigning conference offensive Athlete of the Week, scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year on a feed from junior forward Rodri Fernandez, his seventh assist of the season.
- The Dragons regained the lead in the 53rd minute when Mukaka scored a long goal right to left, then made it a 3-1 contest in the 66th minute on Kamara's goal off a corner kick from Davide Frezzi.
- Junior goalkeeper Ty Bowden, the reigning Great Midwest defensive Athlete of the Week, made seven saves for AU in the loss.
- Wednesday's game featured 30 shots (17-13 Tiffin), 13 corner kicks (7-6 Ashland), 39 fouls and eight yellow cards.
