Clean Sheet, Goal In Each Half Lift AU Men To First League Win Of 2022

Ashland University's men's soccer team earned its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory of 2022 on Thursday (Sept. 15) afternoon, taking a 2-0 decision at Tiffin.
 
The Eagles are 2-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference after snapping a modest three-game losing streak. The Dragons are 2-2-1, 1-1-1.
 
Ashland is 1-0-2 against Tiffin since joining the Great Midwest.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles dented the scoreboard first in the 33rd minute, when freshman defender David Schneider scored his first collegiate goal. Junior midfielder Vander Rocha recorded his first assist as an Eagle.
  • Ashland scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute when senior forward Haruki Kimura struck for his second goal of the campaign, unassisted.
  • Thanks to a Dragon red card, the Eagles played a man up for the final 39½ minutes of the contest.
 
THE WRAP-UP
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Ty Bowden (2-3-1) earned his second clean sheet of the fall and the third of his AU career. Bowden made five saves, as Tiffin out-shot Ashland, 15-12.
  • The Dragons had seven of the game's 10 corner kicks.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagle men are off until Wednesday (Sept. 21) at 7 p.m. at Cedarville (3-1-1, 1-1).
