Three Transfers Join AU Women’s Basketball Starting In 2022-23

Ashland University head women's basketball coach Kari Pickens continues to add to the 2022-23 roster, announcing the addition of three transfers to the program – Zoe Miller and Molly Dever from NCAA Division I Bowling Green, and Maddie Maloney from Saginaw Valley State.

- Miller will be a sophomore forward for the Eagles in 2022-23. As a freshman for the Falcons in 2021-22, she played in 23 games (five starts), and averaged 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Miller prepped at Berlin Hiland High School, was named the Ohio Division III Player of the Year in 2020-21, and was a two-time first-team All-Ohio selection in Division III prior to that.

"We are so excited to welcome Zoe to our AUWBB family," Pickens said. "We recruited Zoe hard out of high school, and always thought that she'd be a great fit in our system. Her rebounding ability is rare, and she has a knack for scoring around the rim. Zoe is going to be an asset for our program over the next three years, and we couldn't be more pleased to call her an Eagle."

- Dever will be a redshirt senior guard/forward for AU next season, with two years of eligibility remaining. Last season at BG, she was a team captain and an Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection, and averaged 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds in 18 games off the bench. As a collegian, Dever has seen time in 57 games after playing her high school ball at Saint Joseph Academy.

"Molly is a tall, athletic guard/forward whose versatility is going to be exciting to add to our depth," Pickens said. "She is a great rebounder and defender, as well as a lights-out shooter. Her versatility is going to allow her to play and guard multiple positions, which is a huge plus. Molly is an outstanding addition to our team, and we have the pleasure of having her for two full years."

- Maloney was a four-year starter for the Cardinals, starting and playing in 103 career games. For her career, she averages 9.9 points, 3.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game, and makes 40.5 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3-point range and 80.8 percent from the free-throw line. Maloney is a two-time second-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference choice who came to SVSU from St. John's High School in Michigan.

"Maddie is an experienced point guard who had an outstanding career at SVSU," Pickens said. "Her passing, decision-making, and 3-point shooting make a special combo, and we are excited to see it fits into our offense. Even though Maddie will be with us for only one year, I have loved Maddie's enthusiasm to be a part of our program."

Miller, Dever and Maloney join Massillon Perry guard Meredith Randulic and Shelby guard Sophia Niese as the newcomers to the 2022-23 roster.

"These incoming transfers are being added to a talented returning group and two exciting freshmen," said Pickens. "The depth and commitment of our team is exciting, and makes me want to get started right away. We are looking forward to the '22-'23 season, and hope that Eagle Nation comes out in full force to cheer us on."

The Eagles concluded the 2021-22 season at 29-3 overall and 21-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, having won both the Great Midwest regular-season and tournament championships. Ashland also played host to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, finished the season ranked No. 9 in the country, and was ranked as high as No. 2 during the campaign.

Over the last 11 seasons, Ashland has gone 322-39 (.892) with two NCAA Division II national championships, two national runner-up finishes, two undefeated seasons, a D-II-record 73-game winning streak, six 30-win seasons, 10 NCAA postseason qualifications, seven conference regular-season championships, eight conference tournament titles, and a mark of 175-13 (.931) at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium.
