Baseball Begins Series At Malone With Wild 13-Inning Victory

To start a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference series over four days in Canton, Ohio, Ashland University's baseball team survived losing leads in the bottom of the seventh, eighth and 10th innings to take an 8-6 decision at Malone on Thursday (April 7).

The Eagles improve to 16-9 overall and 9-4 in the league after their fifth consecutive victory, while the Pioneers are 12-16, 3-8.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the top of the 13th inning, after a single from senior catcher Seth Schroeder and a double by first baseman Logan Moss, senior shortstop Austin Eifrid's two-run single provided the final margin of victory.
  • Senior right-hander Jacob Harsany (4-1), in his first relief appearance this spring, went 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits and a walk, and struck out two.
  • Ashland's top performers in the 11-hit attack were senior second baseman Tim Zeller (3-for-7, double, home run, three RBIs), Schroeder (2-for-5, double, two RBIs) and Eifrid (2-for-7, two RBI). For Zeller, the homer was his fourth of the season, and he is hitting .400 in 2022.
