Looking to repeat as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament champions, Ashland University's women's soccer team took a 2-0 decision from Walsh on Thursday (Nov. 3) night at Cedarville.

The Eagle women, receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, are 14-3-2 overall, 14-1-2 in their last 17 outings and 9-0-2 in the last 11 contests going into the 2022 Great Midwest Tournament championship game on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 4:30 p.m. at Cedarville against the Yellow Jackets. It will be a rematch of the 2021 Great Midwest Tournament title game, a 2-1 overtime victory by the Eagles at Ferguson Field.

WHAT HAPPENED
- The first half saw the score unchanged, but then Ashland dented the scoreboard twice in the second half. In the 60th minute, freshman forward Dani Hicks scored her ninth goal of the season on a breakaway, and senior forward Bailey Clark recorded her first assist of the campaign.
- Ashland picked up an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when sophomore forward McKinley Mendenhall put in her ninth tally of 2022 off a redstart on a header. Both Hicks (fifth of the season) and sophomore defender Julianna Williams (first of the season) had assists on Mendenhall's goal.

THE WRAP-UP
- For the 10th time this season, senior goalkeeper Bri Rogers recorded a clean sheet. On Thursday, she made five saves in the victory. Rogers has 18 career saves as an Eagle.
- The Eagles had 10 shots to the Cavaliers' six, and Ashland took all five of the game's corner kicks.
- Ashland is 3-0 all-time against Walsh in Great Midwest play.
