No. 21 AU Women’s Soccer Ties 2-2 At Findlay

In the next-to-last regular-season game of the 2022 season on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon, the No. 21-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team drew 2-2 at Findlay.
 
The Eagle women are 12-3-2 overall and 10-1-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and will clinch a first-round bye in the 2022 Great Midwest Tournament with a win on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at 6:30 p.m. against Lake Erie (1-13-2, 0-12-1) at Ferguson Field.
 
Findlay is 9-4-3, 8-3-2.
 
Ashland is among teams under consideration for the NCAA Division II postseason out of the Midwest Region, as the first regional rankings of 2022 were revealed on Wednesday (Oct. 19).
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the 24th minute, the Oilers struck first on a goal from Ellie Tischler. Hannah Rybicki had the assist, and Findlay had the initial tally of the game.
  • Ashland knotted the game in the 42nd minute when sophomore forward Annika Gilson scored her first collegiate goal on a feed from freshman midfielder Lily Dreger, for her first collegiate assist.
  • Findlay returned serve in the 51st minute when Rybicki set up Payton Miller for the go-ahead goal at 2-1. The Eagles, however, knotted the game again when senior forward Bailey Clark potted her team-lead-tying seventh goal of the season, unassisted, in the 62nd minute.
 
THE WRAP-UP
  • Senior goalkeeper Bri Rogers made a pair of saves in the tie for AU.
  • Ashland had 12 shots to Findlay's 10, and the Eagles had the game's only two corner kicks.
