Continuing to keep pace atop the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings, the No. 21-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team defeated Malone, 6-1, on Thursday (Oct. 13) night at Ferguson Field.

The Eagles' sixth consecutive victory moves them to 11-3 overall and 9-1 in the Great Midwest – remaining tied with Cedarville for the league lead. The Pioneers are 1-8-3, 0-7-3.

Thursday's contest was Ashland's Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashland went on top in the sixth minute, when freshman midfielder Leiah Goedde fired a goal outside the box for her second goal of the season, unassisted.
- The Eagles went up 2-0 in the ninth minute on another laser from long range, this one from fifth-year midfielder Georgia Nagucki. Her fifth goal of the fall, also unassisted, gave AU more cushion early on.
- Sophomore forward McKinley Mendenhall, who entered the contest on a four-game goal-scoring streak, made it five with a tally off a rebound in the 16th minute for a 3-0 AU lead. Mendenhall's goal was her seventh of the season.
- Ashland scored three goals in a first half for the second consecutive game.
- In the 53rd minute, Goedde potted her second goal of the game and third of the season, finishing off the play in front after a shot from sophomore midfielder Merrik Mihalek. Mihalik's assist was her third of the season.
- Freshman forward Dani Hicks got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute, scoring the sixth goal of her first collegiate season in front of the Malone net on assists from Mendenhall (team-high ninth of the season) and sophomore midfielder Sabrina Trapani (first of 2022).
- Ashland's consecutive shutout streak ended at five games in a row when Malone's McKenzie Mobley scored on a cross from Brynn Mowrer.
- Hicks' second goal of the game and her seventh of the season came in the 66th minute, and got the Ashland lead back to five goals at 6-1.

THE WRAP-UP
- Senior goalkeeper Bri Rogers' shutout streak ended at an impressive 574 minutes and 42 seconds. She made three saves in the victory.
- Ashland out-shot Malone by a 25-4 margin, and took 10 of the game's 11 corner kicks.
