As opening weeks go, Ashland University's women's soccer team had a pretty good one.
Following a neutral-site tie on Thursday (Sept. 2) against nationally-ranked McKendree, the Eagles improved to 1-0-1 following a 1-0 road win against Bloomsburg (1-1) on Saturday (Sept. 4) afternoon. The victory was the first for Eagle first-year head coach
Cayleb Paulino.
WHAT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, the Eagles scored the game's lone goal early in the second half. In the 49th minute, freshman forward Macayla Harris potted her first collegiate goal on a through ball from senior forward/midfielder Bri Fourman.
- Harris' tally marked the second straight game that Ashland's lone goal came from a freshman. On Thursday, it was forward/midfielder McKinley Mendenhall who got the Eagles on the board.
- Junior goalkeeper Bri Rogers, in her first action as an Eagle, earned the clean sheet and made three saves.
NOTE
- Ashland outshot Bloomsburg by a 14-9 count, but the Huskies had the decided advantage in corner kicks (11-3).
