Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rogers’ Fourth Clean Sheet, Baker’s Goal Lead To Win Over Jackets

The combination of another shutout defensively and a second-half goal led to Ashland University's women's soccer team topping Cedarville, 1-0, on Saturday (Sept. 25) afternoon at Ferguson Field.

Ashland moves to 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets are 3-3-1, 3-1-0, in a crowded top of the conference table.

Since losing to then-No. RV Ferris State at home on Sept 10, the Eagles have gone 3-0-1.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless first half, the Eagles dented the scoreboard in the 66th minute. Appropriately on Senior Day/Night, it was senior defender Tori Baker who struck the go-ahead tally in a long free kick. It was Baker's third career goal as an Eagle.
  • That was more than enough for the Eagle defense and junior goalkeeper Bri Rogers, who made four saves for her fourth clean sheet of the fall. Her latest shutout dropped her season goals-against average to 0.18.
  • Ashland out-shot Cedarville by a 13-7 margin, and had five of the game's six corner kicks.

UP NEXT
Ashland will go back on the road to play another Great Midwest contest on Thursday (Sept. 30) at 3 p.m. at Walsh.
