Eagle Women Stay Undefeated In Great Midwest After Win At Walsh

A season-high four goals lifted Ashland University's women's soccer team to a 4-1 win at Walsh on Thursday (Sept. 30) afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Eagle women improve to 5-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Great Midwest, continuing in a four-team logjam atop the table. The Cavaliers are 0-5-2, 0-2-1.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Ashland scored a pair of goals in the first half. Senior defender Tori Baker started the scoring in the 27th minute with her second goal of the season, unassisted, and freshman forward Macayla Harris followed in the 34th minute with her team-high third goal this fall. Senior defender Rylie Howman had the assist on Harris' goal, her second of the campaign.
  • There was a spike in action early in the second half, as Walsh's Sabrina Ortenzi scored in the 53rd minute to cut the Cavalier deficit to 2-1, but Eagle freshman forward/midfielder McKinley Mendenhall potted her third goal, unassisted, to tie Harris for the team lead less than a minute later to move the score to 3-1.
  • Ashland scored its fourth and final goal in the 84th minute when freshman forward/midfielder Julianna Williams tallied her first collegiate goal. Freshman midfielder Sydney McMillan picked up her first AU assist.
  • Junior goalkeeper Bri Rogers made three saves in moving to 5-0-1 on the campaign.
  • The Eagles outshot the Cavaliers by a 16-7 count, and doubled up Walsh in corner kicks, 8-4.
