Ashland University's men's soccer team earned a point in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday (Sept. 25) night at Ferguson Field, playing Cedarville to a 1-1 draw.
The Eagles are 0-4-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the Great Midwest, while the Yellow Jackets are 4-1-1, 1-1-1.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Saturday's contest was scoreless until the 65th minute, when Eagle senior forward Kieran Paterson scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick.
- In the 79th minute, however, Cedarville knotted the game on an unassisted tally from Gui Fernandes.
- In both overtime periods, the Eagles had glorious chances to win. In the first OT, sophomore midfielder Rafael Pereira's cross was on target to senior forward Brandon Davidson, whose header was miraculously saved by Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Jared Zacharias. In the second OT, senior defender Zane Van Fossen was 1-on-1 with Zacharias, who made the save.
- Junior goalkeeper Brett Robinson played at 110 minutes, making six saves.
- Cedarville finished with a decided 26-8 lead in shots, and also led in corner kicks, 8-5.
UP NEXT
Ashland will have a week between games, and will return to the pitch on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Malone (0-8, 0-4).
