The Ashland University volleyball team lost in straight sets Friday (April 9) night to Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17, in University Center, Mich.
The Eagles (9-7) advanced to the quarterfinal with a win over Purdue Northwest earlier Friday, but the Lakers will move on to the semifinals Saturday. The Eagles will play Northwood at 1 p.m. Saturday in a consolation match.
Against the Lakers, the Eagles were not able to carry over their all-around performance from earlier in the day.
In Set 1, Ashland hit .250 as a team, but the Lakers came out red-hot, hitting at a .484 clip with 17 kills and two errors on just 31 swings.
In the second and third sets, the Eagles could not match that offensive efficiency as GVSU was able to close it out.
Junior
Heidi Fausze (seven kills) and senior
Courtney Rosebrook (six kills) led the Eagles by hitting .286 each. Senior
Brooke Peiffer added eight kills while junior setter
Zoey Peck had 23 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
Ali Thompson led the Lakers with 14 kills (.333) as they hit .283 as a team.
