Softball Loses Two At Northwood In Return To Field

In its first games in two and a half weeks, Ashland University's softball team lost 5-0 and 8-1 decisions at Northwood on Saturday (April 3).

The Eagles are 2-8 overall after their first two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests of the season, while the Timberwolves are 14-6, 6-4.

In Game 1, freshman Jillian Middleton (0-4) made the start, allowing three hits, five runs (four earned) and four walks and striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Ashland had just one hit in the opener.

The nightcap saw the Eagles tie the game at 1 in the top of the third when sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Carney hit a solo home run, her first round-tripper as an Eagle. Northwood, however, scored twice in the fourth and five times in the fifth to pull away.

Freshman shortstop Jordyn Severns was 2-for-2 at the plate. Sophomore Josie Duncan (1-2) took the loss in Game 2, yielding eight hits, seven runs (six earned) and six walks and striking out two in 4 2/3 innings.

Ashland will continue GLIAC play on Monday (April 5) at 2:30 p.m. at No. 15 Grand Valley State.
