The Ashland University lacrosse team lost to host Northern Michigan, 25-13, on Sunday (April 11) morning in Marquette.
The Eagles (1-9, 0-6 GLIAC) asserted themselves well early in the game with sophomore
Natalie Sonntag scoring the opening goal. Another tally by sophomore
Cora Wilson with 24 minutes left in the half tied the game at 2.
The Wildcats then scored the next seven goals before Sonntag and freshman
Cassady Becker netted to make it 9-4. Sonntag then scored two more and junior
Kristen Ogle added another as the Eagles trailed, 12-7, going into halftime.
Ashland started the second half with three straight goals from freshman
Madie Gash, Sonntag and Becker to cut the deficit down to 12-10 five minutes into the second half
Ashland still trailed just 15-12 midway through the second period after goals by Gash and Becker, but the Wildcats (7-3, 5-0 GLIAC) scored the next nine goals to take full control of the game.
Becker closed Ashland's account with her fourth goal of the game. Sonntag had five goals to lead the Eagles.
Madeline Bittell and Kaitlyn Bridger led the Wildcats with five goals apiece.
Freshman
Jillian Rekulak finished with 21 saves while Aliyah Smukala had 13 for NMU.
The Eagles will return to Ferguson Field on Thursday (April 15) for a 7 p.m. start against Findlay.
