The Ashland University baseball team fell behind early and was not able to dig out of the deficit as Tiffin beat the Eagles, 22-6, on Friday (March 5) afternoon in Wilson, N.C.
Ashland (2-1) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as junior
Austin Eifrid singled and went to second on a passed ball. He would score on a single to left field by senior
Garett Robberts.
With two down and runners on the corners, the Eagles successfully had senior
Carson Mittermaier score from third as junior
Dillan Smith bolted for second base.
The Dragons then scored four times in the bottom of the first.
After an RBI single by junior
Logan Moss plated junior
Logan Stoldt to make it 4-3, Tiffin scored nine runs in the bottom of the second to push its lead to 13-3.
The other AU runs came on Smith's two-run homer in the fifth and an RBI single by junior
Mike Flemming in the eighth.
Eifrid and Robberts had two hits apiece for the Eagles while Kyle Vance was 4-for-5 with a double and five RBI to lead the Dragons.
Sophomore
Michael McBriar suffered the loss for Ashland and Michael Boswell earned the win for Tiffin.
The Eagles will play Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday (March 6) at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up their season-opening four-game weekend in Wilson, N.C.
