The Ashland University baseball team could not get its offense on track and committed six errors as the Eagles fell to Kentucky Wesleyan, 6-1, on Saturday (March 6) evening in their finale at the Wilson Tobs Division II Baseball Classic in Wilson, N.C.
The Eagles (2-2) dropped the final two games of the weekend after picking up two wins on Thursday to start the season.
Ashland trailed 1-0 through two innings and the Panthers (2-1) scored five total in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead.
Senior
Garett Robberts provided Ashland's only run of the game with a solo home run to left field with one out in the sixth. Otherwise, the Eagles were limited to doubles by Robberts and junior
Mike Flemming and three singles.
Robberts was 3-for-4 in the game.
Junior
Josh Stover suffered the defeat for the Eagles, making his first start of the season. Junior
Joel Ciccarelli gave up three unearned runs in 2 2/3 innings and junior
Perry Bewley tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings with six strikeouts.
CJ Fairchild got the win for the Panthers, going seven innings and giving up just one run with eight strikeouts.
The Eagles will return to the diamond on Friday (March 12) to start a three-game series at Charleston (W.Va.).
