Box Score To say that Friday (March 26) afternoon's game for Ashland University's women's soccer team was a long time coming would be an understatement.
After having not played a game since their NCAA Division II postseason appearance on Nov. 22, 2019, and having their 2021 spring opener postponed, the Eagles returned to the pitch on Friday at Northwood. And Ashland's women (1-0 overall, 1-0 ) were victorious in that return, topping the Timberwolves (1-1-1), 4-1.
The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the 24
th minute on a goal from junior forward/midfielder
Makenzie Kelly. Assisting on the tally was sophomore forward
Bailey Clark. Clark then made it a 2-0 game in the 28
th minute when she potted her own goal.
In the second half, junior midfielder
Bella Petrock scored her first of the season in the 56
th minute on a feed from junior forward/midfielder
Brianna Fourman, extending AU's lead to 3-0. The Eagles made it 4-0 in the 66
th minute when junior forward
Faith Lewis netted her first of the 2021 spring on an assist from junior midfielder
Allison Robertson.
Northwood's goal came in the 89
th minute.
Senior goalkeeper
Hannah Lee earned the win, going the first 72:16 and making two saves. Fellow senior
Abby Lampe played the last 17:44 to finish out the win.
The Eagles had a 16-6 shots advantage in the victory.
Ashland's next game will be Sunday (March 28) at 1 p.m. at Ferris State.
