Eagles Begin Home Stretch With 3-1 Loss To Cardinals

Starting a three-match homestand on Friday (March 26) night at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's volleyball team lost to Saginaw Valley State, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 13-25, 23-25).
 
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss puts the Eagles at 6-5 overall and in the league, while the Cardinals are 3-8, 3-8.
 
Senior outside hitter Brooke Peiffer had 17 kills and 16 digs to lead the Eagles, while junior outside hitter Erin Krupar followed offensively with 16 kills. Sophomore setter Stephanie Smith added 45 assists and a match-high-tying 23 digs, both career-highs.
 
For the Cardinals, Maria Vukaj collected a match-high 19 kills, Peyton Gerstacker had 40 assists, and Kelsey Vittitow posted 23 digs.

Friday's highly-competitive match featured 22 tie scores and 12 lead changes.
 
Ashland and Saginaw Valley State will face off again at "The Kates" on Saturday (March 27) at 2 p.m.
