Brandon Davidson scored his first two collegiate goals, but the Ashland University men's soccer team lost a wild 4-3 affair to host Northern Michigan on Sunday (March 21) afternoon in Marquette, Mich.
Northern Michigan (1-2, 1-2 GLIAC) never trailed in the game, but the Eagles (1-2, 1-2 GLIAC) never let their hosts get comfortable even after NMU started with a 2-0 lead through a pair of goals by Ryan Palmbaum in the first 32 minutes.
Ashland scored in the closing seconds of the first half as the Wildcats put the ball into the back of their own net to cut the margin to 2-1 heading into halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half, Northern Michigan's Kaffie Kurz scored off a pass by Palmbaum to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
Then in the 64
th minute, Davidson broke through with his first goal and the assist coming from junior
Kieran Paterson. Just four minutes later, it was Davidson again who equalized with the pass coming from junior
Brajdi Cekrezi.
The Wildcats would score the game-winner in the 72
nd minute as Emanuel Ancione got on the scoresheet. The assist went to Brady Kronenburg.
After NMU took the lead, the Eagles were able to generate two more shots, the last from freshman
Rafael Pereira whose effort was saved by Alex Weaver.
The Wildcats had a 17-14 advantage in shots, including 12-8 in shots on target. Senior keeper
Jakob Henriksen made eight saves for the Eagles and Weaver stopped six shots.
The Eagles will return to Ferguson Field next Sunday (March 28) at 2 p.m. against Saginaw Valley.
