It was a toss-up on Sunday (March 28) as to which song from the 1970s and 1980s was more appropriate for Ashland University's men's soccer team.
For the entirety of the Eagles' game at Ferguson Field against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Saginaw Valley State, Bob Seger's "Against The Wind" was the correct play. Unfortunately for AU, halfway into the first overtime period, Dionne Warwick's "Heartbreaker" made sense, as a Cardinal goal broke the scoreless tie and left the Eagles with a 1-0 defeat.
Ashland is 1-3 overall and in the GLIAC, while SVSU is 4-0, 4-0.
The Cardinals' goal came off the foot of Brady Walker, on a cross from Kairo Coore. Prior to that tally, Eagle senior goalkeeper
Jakob Henriksen did his best to keep a clean sheet, twisting and contorting his way to 11 saves – eight in the second half alone.
Thanks in large part to the strong winds which were at the Cardinals' back in the second half and OT, they outshot the Eagles, 24-4.
Ashland's next game is slated for Saturday (April 3) at Northwood.
