Returning to the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium after playing 11 consecutive road/neutral-site matches, Ashland University's volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) decision from Central State on Saturday (Oct. 30) night.
Â
The Eagles are 13-12, while the Marauders are 20-10.
Â
And while the overall record might not be what AU head coach
Kevin Foeman expected prior to the season, it doesn't matter – the remainder of the regular season and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament is the focus.
Â
"It doesn't matter about our record," Foeman said. "It doesn't tell the whole story. The best team's going to win the tournament. If our mindset is right, I think we'll be tough."
Â
WHAT HAPPENED
- Saturday night's match was much different than a 3-1 loss at Central State on Oct. 5 – if for no other reason than the Eagles are as healthy as they've been all season. Thirteen different AU players saw action in the victory.
- "Our team is much different than it was three weeks ago," Foeman said. "We needed to get a lot of people in, so we can make this last little stretch run…see if we can get hot with everybody."
- Senior outside hitter Erin Krupar led the Ashland offense with 14 kills and a gaudy .480 hitting percentage, while also adding 10 digs.
- Sophomore libero Katie Thompson paced the defense with 20 digs, while junior Stephanie Smith moved over from defensive specialist to setter for 19 assists.
- The Eagles kept Central State to a negative hitting percentage (-.018) on the evening.
