Late Dragons Surge Results In 2-2 Tie With Eagles

Two second-half goals were the difference on Saturday (Oct. 30) in Tiffin, as Ashland University's men's soccer team drew with the Dragons, 2-2, in a key Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.
 
The Eagles are 5-7-4 overall and 5-5-3 in the conference going into the regular-season finale, while the Dragons are 5-7-4, 4-5-4. Ashland inches closer to a potential Great Midwest Tournament appearance, but won't be able to clinch one until the last day of the regular season.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute when freshman midfielder Ross Lamont potted his collegiate goal on a cross from senior forward Justin Libertowski, his fifth assist of the season.
  • Then, in the 37th minute, Ashland extended its advantage to 2-0 when senior defender Joseph Renner scored his second goal of the fall on a feed from sophomore midfielder Rafael Pereira, his team-high ninth assist. The second tally came off a corner kick.
  • Tiffin dented the scoreboard for the first time in the 68th minute, when Pero Mikulic found the back of the net on a pass from Michael Owusu. The Dragons then knotted the game at 2 in the 71st minute on an Ignacio Mazarro unassisted tally.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Ty Bowden made nine saves in the contest.
  • The Dragons outshot the Eagles by a 31-21 count, and each team took seven corner kicks.
 
UP NEXT
Ashland will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at 5 p.m. at Lake Erie.
