Needing to either tie or win on Tuesday (Nov. 2) night at Lake Erie to get into the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, Ashland University's men's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to close out the fall campaign.
The Eagles are 5-8-4 overall and 5-6-3 in the league, while the Storm, which will play host to the conference tournament Final Four after winning the regular-season title, are 13-3-1, 12-2-0.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Tuesday night's match was scoreless until the 80th minute, when Lake Erie's Conner Mautino scored on a feed from Tomas Fernandez.
- The final margin of victory for the Storm came in the 84th minute, as Teddy Baker scored on an assist from Ayden Von Essen.
- Both of Lake Erie's goals came after going a man up following an AU red card given to senior forward Kieran Paterson in the 68th minute.
- Freshman goalkeeper Ty Bowden stopped three shots in the loss.
- There were only 11 shots in the game, with Ashland having a slim 6-5 advantage. Each team took two corner kicks.
