Eagle Men Earn Key Result At Home Against Oilers

In search of a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament, Ashland University's men's soccer team earned a needed result on Saturday (Oct. 23) at Ferguson Field, winning 3-0 against Findlay.

The Eagles move to 5-6-3 overall and 5-4-2 in the league, while the Oilers are 6-7-1, 5-5-1.

"A big step for us tonight," said Ashland head coach Nick Roberts. "Time and time again this season, we've said, 'backs against the wall, guys.' And we got it done."

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the 24th minute, senior forward Justin Libertowski scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season on a feed from freshman defender Camden Stanzione, his first collegiate assist.
  • "We wanted to get up early and go from there," Roberts said.
  • Another senior forward, Brandon Davidson, potted his sixth goal of the fall in the 39th minute. Assists went to senior midfielder George Brown, his second of the season, and junior midfielder Hunter Johnson, his first of the campaign.
  • Then, with nine minutes even to go in the game, freshman midfielder Dani Micheletti scored his first collegiate goal to put the Eagles up by three goals. Libertowski picked up his fourth assist of the season.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Ty Bowden earned his first collegiate clean sheet on Saturday, making five saves. His record goes to 3-1-0, and his season goals-against average is an even 1.00.
  • "It feels great," Bowden said. "Our back four is so solid. It's why we're able to get the clean sheet. We have great defense. I'm never worried when it comes to that."
  • Ashland out-shot the Oilers, 25-13.

UP NEXT
Ashland will remain at Ferguson Field for another Great Midwest contest on Thursday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m. vs. Trevecca Nazarene (4-8-1, 3-7-1).

"We've got to get a result Thursday," Roberts said. "Hopefully, that will get us into the conference tournament."
