Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Cruise To 19-Point Win at Davenport

The Ashland University men's basketball team closed the first half on a 10-0 run and cruised in the second half as the Eagles dispatched Davenport, 76-57, on Friday (Jan. 29) night in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Sophomore guard Brandon Haraway scored an AU season-high 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting with five rebounds and five assists to lead the way offensively. Seventeen of his points came in the first half.

The Eagles (5-4, 5-3 GLIAC) also held the Panthers (2-6, 2-6 GLIAC) to just 36 percent shooting in the game.

Davenport took an early 14-7 lead, but the Eagles regained the lead on a Haraway bucket with 11:22 left in the first half. AU used a 9-0 run that included a pair of 3-pointers by freshman Hunter Shedenhelm to take a 28-20 lead with seven minutes left in the period.

After the Panthers cut the margin to four, 33-29, Haraway scored seven of the last 10 points of the half as Ashland took a 43-29 lead into the break.

Senior guard Bo Furcron took over the bulk of the scoring load in the second half, scoring 15 of his 20 points after halftime as the Eagles stayed in full control the rest of the way.

Ashland shot 52 percent (28-for-54) from the field and went 13-for-29 (45 percent) from 3-point distance. Furcron hit four triples.

AU also had a 36-31 advantage on the glass and blocked a season-high five shots.

Shedenhelm was the third AU player in double figures with 13 points. Sophomore Ethan Conley had nine points in 27 minutes off the bench and redshirt-senior Aaron Thompson collected nine rebounds.

Chris Rollins and Elijah Belle led Davenport with 12 points apiece.

The Eagles and Panthers will duel once again on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the DU Student Center to close out Ashland's five game road swing.
