On the third day of its annual Florida spring break trip on Tuesday (March 10), Ashland University's softball team lost to regional foes Missouri-St. Louis, 4-1, and Quincy, 3-0.
Against the Tritons, the Eagles' lone run came off the bat of junior right fielder Alli Hylton, who hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman pitcher Josie Duncan tossed three scoreless and hitless innings in relief of classmate Regan Ware (2-2).
Versus the Hawks, yet another freshman, Kayla Ruperto (1-2), was the tough-luck loser, yielding just three hits and three runs in the complete game. She struck out two and walked seven.
Of the Eagles' seven hits, three came from freshman left fielder Lauren McMillin, and two were courtesy of sophomore third baseman Alexis Lavdis.
Ashland (4-6) will resume Florida play on Thursday (March 12) vs. Winona State at 2:30 p.m. and against Indiana, Pa., at 5 p.m.
