Trevor Bassitt is back.
The Ashland University sophomore made a triumphant return from injury on Friday (April 5) at the Northeast Ohio Quad at Youngstown State University, earning two provisional marks for 2019 NCAA Division II outdoor nationals (May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas).
Bassitt finished second in both the men's 110-meter hurdles and men's 400 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.18 seconds and 52.29 seconds, respectively. His 110 hurdles time moves him into a tie for fifth in D-II, and his 400 hurdles time is good for third in the country.
Winning their respective events on Friday were senior Samantha Duale in the women's 100 dash (12.34 seconds), sophomore Kainnan Ramsey in the men's 100 dash (10.79 seconds), senior Tiffany Pryce in the women's 800 run (2:14.43), junior Ellie Jindra in the women's high jump (1.69 meters/5-feet-6½), sophomore Miyuki Sugiyama in the women's triple jump (11.71 meters/38-feet-5), and the men's 4x400 relay team of freshman Brayden Chaney, junior Paul Murray, sophomore Channing Phillips and Bassitt.
Runner-up finishes were earned by junior Samantha Didion in the women's long jump (5.36 meters/17-feet-7) and Phillips in the men's 200 dash (21.78 seconds). Taking thirds were sophomore Jared Ryder in the men's triple jump (13.81 meters/45-feet-4¾), Duale in the women's 200 dash (26.15 seconds), junior Duvan Bautista-Catalan in the men's 3,000 steeplechase (10:06.26), sophomore Ian Johnson in the men's 1,500 run (3:59.95), the women's 4x400 relay of freshman Cheyanne Davis, redshirt freshman Rachel Miller, freshman Destini Oler and freshman Yosola Olujide-Ajibade (4:08.34), and the men's 4x400 relay quartet of sophomore Travis Moore, sophomore Warrick Stanford, freshman Tim Rumas and Ramsey (3:29.46).
The second and final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad will be Saturday (April 6) at 10 a.m. at the University of Akron.
