Training Meet Results In Two New, One Improved Nationals Marks

The first meet of the new calendar year resulted in a few changes to the 2019 NCAA Division II indoor nationals list for Ashland University's men's and women's track teams.

On Saturday (Jan. 12) at the Findlay Open, junior Ellie Jindra moved up the national women's high jump ladder thanks to an improved provisional mark and a first-place finish in 1.71 meters/5-feet-7¼. Senior Myles Pringle turned in a new provisional mark in the men's 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line first in 6.87 seconds, and sophomore Channing Phillips did the same in the men's 200 dash (21.97 seconds).

Earning wins on Saturday for the AU women were sophomore Madeline Kreller in the 200 dash (25.64 seconds) and sophomore Miyuki Sugiyama in the triple jump (11.20 meters/36-feet-9). Second-place finishes were turned in by freshman Cheyanne Davis in the 400 dash (1:01.77), senior Tiffany Pryce in the 800 run (2:18.88), junior Paula Wollenslegel in the high jump (1.63 meters/5-feet-4¼), sophomore Gabrielle Ewing in the pole vault (3.27 meters/10-feet-8¾), and redshirt freshman Carrol Pauley in the weight throw (15.37 meters/50-feet-5¼).

Taking thirds for the Eagle women were senior Samantha Duale in the 60 dash (7.80 seconds), junior Gariana Bercheni in the 200 dash (26.03 seconds), Wollenslegel in the long jump (5.08 meters/16-feet-8), Jindra in the triple jump (10.96 meters/35-feet-11½), sophomore Vanessa Byers in the pole vault (2.97 meters/9-feet-9), senior Emily Schumaker in the 3,000 run (10:53.31), and the 4x400 relay team of Kreller, Bercheni, freshman Destini Oler and sophomore Rachel Miller (4:09.81).

Winning events for the Ashland men on Saturday were sophomore Trevor Bassitt in the 60 hurdles (8.20 seconds) and 300 dash (35.75 seconds), sophomore Ian Johnson in the mile run (4:23.73), Phillips in the 400 dash (50.19 seconds), Pringle in the 600 run (1:22.71) and high jump (2.15 meters/7-feet-0½), junior Jacob Bon in the long jump (6.76 meters/22-feet-2¼), junior Kyle D'Ambrosio in the triple jump (13.14 meters/43-feet-1½), and the 4x400 relay team of Bassitt, freshman Brayden Chaney, sophomore Travis Moore and Phillips (3:25.14).

Men's runner-up finishes were turned in by Chaney in the 400 dash (50.59 seconds), junior Paul Murray in the 800 run (2:02.03) and freshman Storm Elsesser in the triple jump (12.62 meters/41-feet-5). Finishing third were Moore in the 60 hurdles (8.59 seconds), sophomore T.J. Elliott in the 60 dash (7.01 seconds), freshman Tim Rumas in the 300 dash (36.69 seconds), sophomore Brenden Archer in the 200 dash (22.91 seconds), D'Ambrosio in the long jump (6.45 meters/21-feet-2), and Elsesser in th high jump (1.88 meters/6-feet-2).

Ashland's men and women will compete on Friday (Jan. 18) at 12:30 p.m. at the Youngstown State College Invitational.
