Undefeated Eagles Take Down Timberwolves, 2-1

Box Score

The Eagles keep on rollin'.

The Ashland University women's soccer team defeated the Northwood Timberwolves, 2-1, at Ferguson Field on Friday (Sept. 25) night.

The Eagles improved to 6-0-0 (3-0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) on the season, their best start since the 2001 season, when they started with 10 wins in a row and finished 16-1-1. AU also remains the GLIAC's only women's soccer team with an undefeated overall mark.

Sophomore Brittany Ehlert tallied her first goal of the season to put the Eagles on top 1-0 in the 29th minute. She headed in a loose ball off a corner kick by Haley Stinebaugh.

In the 69th minute, Northwood's Jessica Flores knotted the game at one goal apiece.

However, the 1-1 deadlock didn't last long, as sophomore Kelsey McKernan booted a free kick 74 minutes into the match and into the upper left corner of the net, giving the Eagles the deciding goal.

Northwood falls to 1-4-1 (1-2-0 GLIAC).

Ashland will be back at home on Sunday (Sept. 27) at noon against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.
