Box Score For the second time in four seasons, Ashland University's women's basketball team defeated a Division I program in an exhibition game.
On Nov. 3, 2012, on the way to an NCAA Division II national championship, the Eagles won at Dayton, 79-77. On Saturday (Nov. 7), it was a 59-53 victory at Bowling Green.
Ashland, ranked No. 15 in the country, trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, 26-22 at halftime and 40-37 after three quarters. The Eagles were down 51-50 with 3:10 left in the game before junior guard Kelsey Peare's 3-pointer with 2:49 to go.
That triple started a 9-2 AU run to finish off the contest.
Sophomore forwards Andi Daugherty and Laina Snyder led the Ashland effort. Daugherty, the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, scored 21 points, including four triples, and added eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
Snyder had a team-high 13 rebounds and four steals along with 13 points and three assists.
Senior guard McKenzie Miller had nine points, three boards and three helpers, while Peare chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two thefts.
Ashland out-rebounded BGSU, 35-33, and had 17 assists on 22 field goals. The Eagles forced 21 Falcon turnovers.
The Eagles will begin the 2015-16 season on Friday (Nov. 13) at 5 p.m. against Cedarville at Alderson Broaddus in the GLIAC/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Challenge.
