Box Score Friday (Oct. 30) night's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer contest between the Ashland Eagles and the Ohio Dominican Panthers was more than just a game.
The Panthers welcomed in the Eagles in a special night supporting AU head coach Dan Krispinsky and his battle with cancer. ODU raffled off items and raised more than $2,000 for Krispinsky's medical expenses.
The game itself went favorably for the Eagles, as sophomore forward Kelsey McKernan tallied her sixth goal of the season off a free kick from freshman forward Deijah Swihart in the 74th minute.
The Eagles won the game, 1-0, despite being outshot 19-9 on the night.
Ashland's victory gives the team a 13-3-0 overall regular season record (9-3-0 GLIAC). The last time the Eagles had a 13-win season was 2004, when AU finished 19-2-1 and made an NCAA Tournament run.
The Eagles will play host to a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal game as the third seed on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The opponent and time are still to be determined.
Ohio Dominican finishes the regular season 9-8-0 (8-4-0 GLIAC). The Panthers will be the fourth seed in the GLIAC Tournament.
