The Ashland University women's soccer team sent the home crowd happy tonight as they beat Alderson-Broaddus 2-1. The game at Ferguson Field was the Eagles home opener to the 2014 season.

From the start, Ashland dominated the match in terms of ball possession. The entire game seemed to have the Eagles attacking the Battlers goal. AU outshot the Battlers by an astounding 27 to 4 mark in the game.

The first goal of the game came by way of AU senior Kelsey Dropsey, in the 23rd minute. She punched the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Short after, in the 29th minute, freshman Julie Lacock got in on the scoring action with her first goal of her AU career. The goal was a 20 yard rainbow that sailed over the goalies head to add to the Eagles lead, 2-0.

The Battlers mounted a late comeback scoring in the 88th minute on a penalty kick by Olivia Augustine. AB was never able to get the game tying goal though and the Eagles came away on the smiling side of the scoreboard, 2-1.
