Box Score The Ashland University women's soccer team lost a 3-2 decision Friday night (Nov. 7) at Ohio Dominican in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Ashland is 12-7-0 overall after its second one-goal loss to the Panthers this season. ODU (15-3-1) beat the Eagles, 2-1, in Ashland on Sept. 21.
The loss snapped AU's five-game winning streak.
"I couldn't be more proud of these girls to battle back, down 3-1, and to make it back to a point where it's anyone's game," said Ashland head coach Danny Krispinsky. "We came back a couple times (in the game), and that just shows the true character of our team and that's why we've had a successful season."
Ohio Dominican scored first, as Lauren Pratt took feeds from Ashley Blake and Kelly Johnson and scored in the 12th minute. Ashland freshman Morgan Bittengle, who led the GLIAC in goals, points and game-winning goals coming into the match, scored an unassisted breakaway goal – her 16th of the season – in the 31st minute to knot the score at 1.
The Panthers struck for the next two goals in the waning minutes of the first half. Allison Pavlik's unassisted goal in the 39th minute made it a 2-1 game, then Madison Baldwin's goal on a cross from Pavlik in the 45th minute gave ODU a 3-1 halftime advantage.
Brittany Ehlert's third goal of the campaign, coming off a Kelsey McKernan corner kick, in the 79th minute got Ashland to within a goal, but the Eagles couldn't gain the equalizer.
Ohio Dominican had a 9-8 shots advantage. Ashland had four corner kicks to ODU's three. Eagles senior goalkeeper Karly Beuck made three saves.
